Superintendent (Technical)
OVERALL SUMMARY
The function is to provide technical, management and consultancy expertise and support to ensure vessel fully comply with Class / Flag State / Major Oil Company requirements, attain sea worthiness for commercial deployment and to maintain our reputation as ‘Shipper of Choice’ in the industry.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Class and Flag State requirements fulfillment
- Plan & monitor requirements for Class and Flag State Survey to ensure all certificates are valid.
- Maintenance and Repair
- Attend to repair(s) of vessel and troubleshoot by providing technical expertise consultancy.
- Monitor and manage Plan Maintenance Scheme (PMS) / Worklist for vessels.
- Drydocking of vessel
- Plan and review drydocking requirements / specifications and costing.
- Assist in supervision of drydocking and monitor performance in terms of cost, quality and schedule.
- Evaluate the drydocking for lessons learnt and closure of invoices with Technical Executive / Specialist.
- Store / spare requisition
- Evaluate store / spare requisitions and recommend for approvals by Fleet Technical Manager / Fleet Manager or Fleet General Manager / Technical Director.
- Performance Management
- Monitor, review and analyze running / drydock cost, bunker, lub oil (L.O.) consumption and provide report / recommendation to Fleet Technical Manager / Fleet Manager or Fleet General Manager.
- Manage, monitor and review under-performing ships.
- NCR
- Technical Expertise Consultancy
- Assist to address and verify defects as stated in NCR with special attention to MOC (where applicable) / Class / Charterer requirements.
- Propose or review draft specification for new building / conversion / alternation to vessel for compliance to Class / Statutory requirements.
- Plan and attend to routine inspection and audit of vessels and reporting.
- Sale and Purchase Inspection.
- Taking over of vessels.
- Coordinate with MSQV in approving hotwork permit and initiatives implementation onboard vessels.
- People Management
- Coach and motivate Executive (Technical Services – Procurement) to perform on the job.
- Oversee the welfare and management of ship staff in partnership with Fleet Personnel
Department. This includes:- Briefing and debriefing of Masters, Chief Engineers and other senior officers
- Conducting performance appraisals of Masters, Chief Engineers and other senior officers
- Lead, develop and coach assigned Senior Officers on all matters (safety, technical, cost leadership)
- Any other duties as assigned by Superiors
QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE
- Certificate of Competency (Class I) / Chief Engineer Foreign Going
- Min 2 years’ experience as Superintendent in other companies OR
- An ex-company employee with minimum 6 months as a Chief Engineer sailing onboard company vessel
- Minimum 5 Years of Tanker experience is mandatory for Tanker Fleets
- Good negotiation skills.
- Good people management skills. Past experience in staff reviews and monitoring of KPIs is required.
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Independent and resourceful,
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadline.
